Default .net remoting help

I am not very familiar with this technology. I, however, have a question about it.

Here's my situation:

I'm developing a web application, in which I have a main page that contains a couple different formatted html tables in them that contain data from the database. Since this data can change in the database on the fly, I run a hidden iframe that i use Javascript to call and set the source to another .aspx page. In this page, i retrieve information from the database, store the data in a javascript variable, access the iframe's parent, and store the new information in the tables. This way, the user does not see any type of flashing or refreshing on the main page. Things just "update".

I have a javascript function that is running setInterval, so that javascript will call this page in the iframe to keep reloading every minute in case there were changes made.

Here is my problem. The above works just perfectly except that new data does not always come in. If there are 10,000 people logged into the system, and javascript for each user is calling that page to hit the database, that can be 10,000 possibily useless hits to the database. Because of this, i find that this can be an inefficient way to do this.

What id LIKE to do, is only have javascript call that page ONLY when new data is in the database. So i turned to .net remoting for this solution, tho i do not know for sure if remoting is made to do things like this.. thats why im here to ask..

but i would like somehow for , when new data comes in for a particular user, for the server to send back the signal to client side, to tell javascript to call this function.

if this seems doable with .net remoting, please let me know. i dont necesarily need to know the implementation of this, but rather if its just possible to do this way i want to.

If its not, and you know of a better solution to what I'm doing, please let me know.

Some of the things that are important to this application, is that the pages should never have to reload. if i need to change information on a page, i will do it dynamically. it gives a good appearance as an application that way, rather than a web page.

thanks in advance for your answers and suggestions..

Richie
