Default Video Production Project - Need help now

Howdy folks,

I have a bit of a project that I want to try to put together right now. I am part of an organizing committee for a political debate, and due to some frustrations with TCOM people in the area, we are three days out and, as far as we know, only have a single camera to shoot the event. Well, we can work with that, but we've also worked too hard for us to half-*** what people get to see.

So, I thought of a way to write a program to do a proper multicamera production. It would involve three HD cameras on tripods (one on stage, two in the audience) each connected to a laptop via USB port. The computer displays the image to the camera operator and sends the image to a central computer through a router of some sort. The central computer displays the images from each camera simultaneously, allows the user to select the correct camera, and then sends that camera's image to an outside feed (already established).

To accomplish this properly, since we don't have headsets available, we would also need to send messages between the computers regarding which person the producer wants the camera to be pointed at, when the camera is pointed at that person and when the camera is the feed camera.

Specifically, we would need to:

- Receive a video feed from a USB port
- Send a video feed through an IP connection
- Receive a video feed from an IP connection
- Display an video on a screen from a USB or IP connection
- Overlay a message on the video
- Convert a feed from a USB/IP port into an image
- Convert an image to an IP stream
- Communicate messages between computers
- Play a saved video on the screen (for opening/closing credits)
- Send a stored video to an IP connection (same)

If I had more time to do this (if I knew I would have to do something like this earlier), then I'd be able to figure all of this out. However, I have never done a lot of these things before, at least not in Visual Basic, and I simply do not have the time to figure all of these things out. So, I am hoping I could get some help from the community.

I am very familiar with Visual Basic, and it's what I use to code something very quickly. I have displayed images from files (not video). I have used IP in languages other than VB. I have overlayed images in OpenGL. However, I have never tapped into a USB connection, played videos in VB or streamed video over any kind of connection.

Nonetheless, it seems like each of these actions individually is quite simple and straight-forward. If anyone has the code to do these things individually, I can tie everything together and create the necessary GUI. As I have the time and energy over the final three days, I'll search for things individually and see if I can get it to work. I would be indebted to any of your forever, though, if you had the code available or could spend a bit of time writing something up for me. I just need some generic methods and/or Resources to include, and maybe some expertise in how to physically set this up.

Even simply knowing precisely where to look for each thing would be a huge help.

Thank you for any help you can give.
