Default A program to set an html page as the desktop background

I'm stuck!

Can anyone give me any pointers on writing a program in .Net that will allow me to set an html page as my desktop background?

I have searched this forum, and Xtreme .Net Talk and only managed to write (with help, thanks) a program that lets me change my desktop wallpaper to either a .bmp or a .jpeg file.

Anyone got any pointers?

An HTML page? You mean you want to take a screenshot of an HTML page and place it as the background.

Seeing how an HTML page is not a picture file (has text and hyperlinks and animated GIFs, embedded files), you'd have to convert it into a .BMP or .JPG file by taking a screen shot and pasting the screenshot on the clipboard in a painting program and save it as a bmp or jpg.

Putting a html page as a html page as windows background is impossible, except in the form of a picture like Iceplug said before.

It's not impossible. In at least some versions of Windows it is possible to set an html page as the desktop background using active desktop.

I have done this on my pc at home by right clicking on the desktop, selecting properties, then desktop and choosing an html file. Then Windows usually asks you to switch on Active Desktop and hey presto it works!!

I appreciate though, it doesn't appear to work on all versions or installations of windows, it's not working on the computer I am on now, but I have done this before (albeit manually) at home...

I always thought that the Active Desktop was a third party program provided by windows, running and replacing the background, and I kinda still do. That kinda thing is of course possible.

That maybe so, but I think I've seen (it was a while ago) references to my html wallpaper in the registry, so I wondered if it was possible to change the relevent settings in the registry so that I could update my wallpaper to an html web page.

Hence my post. Any ideas?

I was looking for the same information and I was wondering if anyone has found any answers to this question.

On my computer in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components there are keys there that represent webpages that one has added through the customary way of right clicking on the desktop.

One of the keys in each of these is the Flags key. The value there indicates whether the page is to be visible. At least on my computer, a value for this key of (2) will make it not visible on the desktop and a value of (8194) will make is appear on the desktop.

But, if you just go into the registry and change a (2) value to (8194) the html document won't appear until you log off and log back on again.

Have you found any other information???
