Default .txt file formating


i am making a program to generates a .txt file and i was wondering how to make certain strings different sizes and bold. please keep answers simplistic to understand as i am still an amateur programmer

You can't. Text files are raw text. The only way you might get different formatting is to use a text editor that performs some manner of syntax highlighting. However, in that case it's not that your text file has inherent formatting, it's that the text editor is programmed to make those strings different colors/fonts/font weights/etc.

You might consider using a rich text file (.rtf), which can have built-in formatting. Unfortunately there's not a good API for making them in .NET; the closest thing would be to use a RichTextBox control to do the formatting. Alternatively, you could generate HTML files or some other format that has formatting potential.
