Default Interior desgin program

I have to Design a program to be used by an interior decorator to estimate the cost of painting a room. The following conditions have to be met.
1.1 The decorator needs to enter the height of the room (between 2 and 6 metres), then the length of all four walls (minimum 1 metre; maximum 25 metres).
1.2 The program should then calculate the total area of the room.
1.3 The program should allow a choice of three paints:
 Luxury quality which cost £1.75 per square metre
 Standard quality which costs £1.00 per square metre.
 Economy quality which costs £0.45 per square meter.
1.4 The decorator should also be able to choose to use undercoat paint if required, which costs an additional £0.50 per square metre.
1.5 The program should display the area of the room and the chosen choice of paint and whether undercoat was chosen or not.
1.6 The program should display an itemised bill with a total with and without VAT included.
1.7 The program should allow the user the choice to exit or re-enter new room height and length and calculate new cost estimate.
1.8 The program should include on-screen help for the user.
1.9 The program should include a main menu (switchboard) with the following options (Note: It is advised to use procedures for each menu option) :
 Estimate Paint Cost
 View Estimate Total
 Help and FAQ
 Exit Program

Dim rHeight, wall1, wall2, wall3, wall4 As Integer
Dim areaofroom As Integer
Console.Write("Please enter the height of the room between 2 and 6 metres:")
rHeight = Console.ReadLine
Console.WriteLine("please enter the length of the first wall of the room")
wall1 = Console.ReadLine
Console.WriteLine("please enter the length of the second wall of the room")
wall2 = Console.ReadLine
Console.WriteLine("please enter the length of the third wall of the room")
wall3 = Console.ReadLine
Console.WriteLine("please enter the length of the fourth wall of the room")
wall4 = Console.ReadLine
Console.ReadLine()

areaofroom = (wall1 + wall2 + wall3 + wall4) * rHeight

This is my coding so far. The calculation part of the coding does not work yet so could you please tell me as to why dat is

I am not entirely sure what you are calculating with
Code:
areaofroom = (wall1 + wall2 + wall3 + wall4) * rHeight
but it doesn't look like the area of the room. If you are involving the height then it would possibly be the volume but not using that equation.

Is the room going to be of a regular shape (i.e. opposite walls are the same length) or can all four walls be of different sizes? If the first is true then area is an easy calculation, if the second it is a lot more complex.

You're thinking 3-D.
The code gets the length of each wall, and the height to figure the total area of the walls in the room, which would be used to determine other things, like how much paint is needed to cover the walls of the room and the price for materials, etc.
I'm assuming they don't have to paint the floor, and possibly the ceiliing is also not included.
Certainly appears to be a school assignment to me.

Ahhh, that makes more sense now - the total area of all the walls. Wasn't quite sure what the area of a room meant.

junied32167,

I really think you should be paying better attention in class.
This assignment is about a fundamental as you can get.

Programs cannot do much without input and output.

Console.Readline() allows input. It pauses the program and accepts text from the user
when enter is pressed.
Console.Write() Displays text to the user.
Console.WriteLn() Displays text to the user and moves the cursor to the next line.

What you have so far accepts input, but does not display the final output.

You also have an extra readline that does nothing before your calculation.
