Default How to make clickable timezones

So we started using visual basic for my ict class, but i don't understand it at all and I can't find an answer (that I understand) anywhere. My assignment is to have a world map, from which the timezones should be clickable. I don't know how to do that. How do I shape buttons? Is it possible to put a picture of the countries on a button, make the background of the picture one colour, and make that color invisible or something?

Help would be very much appreciated. I'm on below beginners level..

Thanks, I hope my question is somehow clear.

I guess as a first shot, I would find a picture that shows the 24 time zones.
I would make a copy of that picture and bring it into an editor, such as the Paint program that comes with windows, then color in each zone with one of 24 distinct colors.

In the program, I would load the original picture in a picturebox for display and load the painted version into a bitmap that the user wouldn't see.
Add code in the mouseDown event (most likely) and take the coordinates of the click and get the color of the pixel at that same location in the "painted" bitmap.

That color should be used to identify one of the 24 selectable time zones.
