Default windows forms not present

First off, please forgive me if this isn't the right place!
My question is about Visual Studio community edition (2017). I downloaded and installed it (several GB, took ages!) but on running, I can't find 'windows forms' at all - which is what I thought it included. Has anyone else had this problem?

Which workload of Visual Studio Community did you install, i.e. did you select the Net Desktop development as opposed to the Universal?

Windows Forms App should be available from the New Project dialog if you selected .Net Desktop development.

You should be able to download that workload independently if you didn't download it initially.
Here is one link that describes the process.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/vis...-visual-studio

That said, I still use an older version of VS myself, before they had the Universal branch. I downloaded the community version of 2017 on one of my personal laptops, but haven't really done much with it at this point. We use an earlier version at work, so I continue to use that earlier version at home as well.

Someone else at work was just starting out and wanted to download Visual Stdio 2017 and wasn't sure what selection to make. That is the reason I downloaded it. I did a little reading up front, and then selected the .Net Desktop workload as I would want to reuse existing Windows Form projects in the 2017 version of VS if I was going to help that person. I did give him an existing example project and he was able to run it using VS 2017. I haven't done anything else with it since then as I'm quite busy with real work and haven't had the inclination to explore 2017.
