Default .NET to access database

Can anyone steer me in the right direction. I am new to .net In VB6, there was a way to creat a quick database. In .net, I just want to make a small database that will be self contained in the program. I doesn't have to be huge. I cannot however get my List box or text box to connect to an access database that I have already made. I know nothing about ADO.net. Any way to get around it for now and come back to it after I am done with this headache?

Default Small database

OK, my spelling is awful. I am sorry about that.

Let me ask a more specific question since nobody wants to try the previous one. How about, to use a Access database, do I have to do a reference to access?

Lets start there and any other information you would like to throw my way.

Do I have to use Microsofts SQL server? I looked through all of my books and they all make it sound so easy. Connecting to the SQL server. I loaded MySQL server on my machine and could not connect. Microsoft or bust?

Are there any good tutorials in "See Spot Run" language explaining the connecting to a database and actually using it? I'll bet you wish you would have just answered the previous one now.

Sorry for being so new, I am trying to learn though.

I appreciate all the help.
