Default How to install msdn library from .net 2003 disks

Hi all,

Please forgive my very dumb question.

I got .net 2003 installed in my windows 2000 professional PC. I didn't install msdn library at that time. Now I think the dynamic help will be very helpful while I am learning this new environment. I went to add/remove program and clicked visual studio .net 2003. I put the msdn library disk 1 in my CD drive got 'incorrect disk' error message. I then put visual studio .net 2003 disk 1 in the CD drive - got the same error.

I removed the MSDN 1999 (for my visual basic 6 program). Still I got the same error message from both disks when I tried again to install .net MSDN library.

My question, if there is a way to bypass the add/remove program to direct go to MSDN disk 1 to install the library. how to do that? There are several .exe files in the MSDN library disk 1. Can anyone tell me how to install this? Since I am just start to learn the .net, I really want to have the help ready for me when I debug.

your help is very much appreciated,

I can't say that I've used the MSDN disks before...but have you tried just not using add/remove and running the autoplay on the MSDN CD?

Use option 3 on the VB disk ("re-install or install the MSDN library").

There was no reason to uninstall the VB6 MSDN. They run fine together.

Default MSDN library

Hi all,

Thanks so much for the replies. I didn't know I can have MSDN for VB 6 in the same machine. I was trying to get the .net library to install so bad, didn't check any information before I uninstalled it.

I was trying to install directly from the library disk1 (disk 2073 May 2003), but not sure about which .exe file I should run. There are several files from the root, insrMSIA.exe, instMSIW.exe, setup.exe. There is also a setup folder - but I see only deletetemp.exe in it.

I uninstalled .net 2002 before I installed .net 2003. I am not sure if this is the reason with the error message came up.

Thanks a lot,

Don't search for the correct exe on the MSDN cd's, just insert the "main" cd and let it run until you get a pop-up window which has 4 options to choose from...then pick #3

And if that doesn't work I'm willing to bet you my membership that it is setup.exe .

Default library installed

Hi all,

I put the 'main' CDs disk1 - select 3 again. It worked smoothly. The only difference between this time and last several times is this time I heard the CD drive humming loudly while starting. Almost made me think the CD drive was not fully awake in previous installations so I got the 'incorrect disk' error.

Anyway I did follow italkid's suggestion to do it again. Thank you guys so much. I always learn straight forward answers from this site.
