Default Need Help on Setup & Deployment Problem

First of all, congratulations on this extremely helpful site.

am fairly new to VB.Net and my problem is that I cannot seem to be able to create a setup project.

Is this because my version is Studio.Net Professional and not the Enterprise architect?

Thank you in advance and more power!

Yes, you certainly can create setup projects in the professional edition.
I'm not sure what year yours is (2002, 2003, 2005), but in VS 2005 to add a setup project to your current project you just click on "File>Add>New Project..." then in the "Add New Project" Dialog select "Other Project Types>Setup and Deployment>Setup Project". It's should be very similar for any version you have.

Thank you very much..

I am using the 2003 version and what I seem to be getting is that whenever I click the build button on my setup project... Visual studio asks for the VS CD again without saying which CD?

My guess is I did not quite install Visual Studio properly/Completely?

thank you again for your reply..

That's certainly odd. What exactly is the message you are getting?

first.. i create a new setup project
then.. i add the files and folders(and files inside the folders) that i need in the application folder.
when i click build.. i get:
"Please wait while Windows configures Visual Studio .Net Professional 2003-English"
it has a thermometer so I wait.......
THEN...
Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Visual Studio.Net Professional-English. The windows Installer cannot continue.

there.. then I click OK and the thermometer rolls back like a deflating balloon along with my hopes of creating a setup project....

I found very little on this error with regards to Visual Studio, but you can try this:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...bf9e2a7595fabd
http://www.computing.net/windows95/w...um/158417.html

What it seems to be is an error given by Windows Installer when it can't find the source, which would make perfect sense if it weren't for the fact that it should already be installed and shouldn't have to be done again. More info:

Have you tried Reinstalling or Repairing your Visual Studio install outside of the build process?
That should help make sure that all the project templates, and merge modules are installed correctly.

I appreciate all the help guys..

I still can't build a darn thing and its frustrating. will probably resort to re-installing everything (Studio I mean)

If I don't have anything to do this Sunday.. I'll probably format the hard drive.. just to get even ..

thanks once again and cheers!

I haven't tried re-installing or trying to find out if there is a "repair" option.

Not because im lazy(i won't admit that) but because I have just encountered another "quirk"..

the WEB SETUP works fine..

I recently had this problem and after a substantial amount of googling was unable to solve it.

I finally realized that this started after I'd installed VFP. I removed VFP and it didn't fix the problem. So, I also uninstalled VS05 and all of the additional packages (SQL, etc..). I then reinstalled VFP first and VS05 after installing VFP.

Builds setup packages like a charm now.
