Default .Net Framework 2.0 using VS.NET 2002?

This is probably a terminally dumb question, but can you actually use the .NET Framework 2.0 if you've got an older version of Visual Studio (I have VB.NET 2002 Standard) installed?

I don't know if I should continue or just download the free VB 2005 Express edition.

There are a number of things in .NET 2.0 that woulkd probably freak out the 2002 IDE (like partial classes, generics ,data designers etc.) so my instinct would be that you cannot (without considerable hair loss) make VS 2002 write .Net 2.0 apps.

Obviously you can have all three versions of the .NET framework installed on the one machine and VS2002 will still produce 1.0 apps in that situation...

That said there is a great deal of extra sexiness in VB.Net 2005 so I'd recommend you go with the express edition.

Urg. Or I contact one of my friends in Microsoft and see if they can get me an "employee discount" on the standard version. OK. I imagined that was probably the answer, but I thought I would ask anyway.
