Unhappy Package-Deployment: Too Weird

This problem has plagued me for quite a long time.VB6 programs written when I had Windows 98 as the OS deployed nicely. I upgraded to Windows XP and those programs written with XP deploy well. However a program written initially with Windows 98 and completed with Windows XP has this problem: on deployment the program resets the screen resolution to 640x480 and horribly magnifies everything on the monitor including all Windows icons. I can override this by going to Start-Control Panel-Display-Settings and reset the resolution but this is tacky. It's my guess that this is due to a glitch in the transition between 98 and XP. Any thoughts?
