Exclamation Not having to use the stupid Setup file with my .NET app?

I'm making a program in VB 2008 where I will create an installer to move the EXE files and all dependencies into a Program Files group folder.

I have some problems
  1. I cannot just use the EXE file as is, as too many people havn't felt adventurous enough to download the .NET Frameworks; and probably wouldn't anyway considering the file size.
  2. Using the .NET Framework setup thing, it requires:
    • Too many more files to sort out
    • Another folder structure
    • The application is to be started up after .NET install without permission
    • Another user permission to run something they don't know about
    • Local Settings directories to me made to freakin' run it every time!

How can I install my program nice and simply for my customers, without them getting confused and without myself getting confused over nothing!

I will convert my publishment and/or reverse engeneer it to run it under C++ or C# or whatever it requires, or do anything else as long as it is simple for the end user and does not require me re-writing my code.

Thanks in advance,
CJ

To address (1), you really need to ask yourself if this is a problem. Vista's 3 years old now and comes with .NET 3.0. Win7's on the horizon and comes with .NET 3.5. People download Flash to get Youtube running and don't whine about it, I don't see why installing the .NET Framework is that big of a deal. The file size is between 10MB and 60MB in the worst case; check out smallest dot net for details on the ~3MB installer that kicks off the process.

I also don't understand #2. More files? More folders? Auto-startup? I have no idea what you're talking about. When I deploy my applications I don't deal with any of that. Could you express your problems more clearly, preferably using more than one sentence?

Otherwise, if you don't want to run on the .NET Framework, you need to be writing your application in an unmanaged language like C++. Don't forget to use the lowest common denominator of MFC, ATL, or the Windows API or your users will have to either download runtimes or upgrade their entire operating system.

I would bet money 2/3 of .NET questions are already answered in one of these three places.
