Default Compiling issues?

Is there any good tutorials on how to make your project an exe? I added a setup project to my solution. Tried to build it, but i got an error saying:

"Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product
Visual Basic.Net Standard 2003-English. The
Windows installer cannot continue."

So I hit ok and cancel out of that. I went and looked at the file where the setup should have gone, theres a debug file with a bunch of setup and installers there. I try to run them and get an error message saying:

"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package.
This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2727."

This is the first time i've tried to make an exe in .net so any help would be great. Thanks guys.

Creating an executeable (.exe) is not the same as distributing/deployment of your project. A setup project is ment to deploy your application to targeted machines, this includes installing your application, making sure it's dependencies gets installed and various other tasks.

Creating an executable from your project is a lot easier than deployment. When you create a project in Visual Studio fundementally have three options: A Windows Forms Application, a console application and a class library. The first two options will both create executable files when compiled whereas the third will compile into a static library (.dll).

So to create an exectuable, create either a Windows Forms Application or Console Application. Once your application has been created you can build the project (CTRL+SHIFT+B) afterwhich you should be able to find the .exe in the default location which is the project folder -> bin -> debug -> yourapp.exe
