Default Protecting Software Against Re-engineering

Hello,
Today I heard scary news that if I develop an application using .Net technology in Visual Studio, and deploy it to a client, the client can get the Visual Studio project files out of the deployed files (can get forms, modules, etc…).
Is this right?!

I am actually considering creating a semi-functional version of my application (free version to help marketing the software), a Basic version and a Full version; and I do not want to remove codes and delete forms and so on, I want just to disable or hide UI controls.

Moreover, because the database server is likely to be owned by the client, I do a lot of checking when the application starts. Is it possible for the client to crack and delete these If statements, assuming that the client is expert in .Net? Is it easy?

YOURS,
Adel
