Default Reading ClickOnce Install Error Files

Finally found an error file when trying to install with ClickOnce.

Attached is the file. If I am reading this correctly it is telling me that a referenced assembly is not installed on the target system.

Doesn't say which though that I can see.

Has someone else been down this road?

That is amazingly not-useful.

A quick search revealed one of many results; seems like occasionally some piece of the ClickOnce voodoo can get corrupted. Some people deleted directories and it went away. Others didn't have it happen. It was a long thread, but someone seemed to suggest hard shutdowns after a published update could cause it. No idea.

I recreated the entire project under a new name. Added a form and copied all of the controls from the old project to the new form. copied the form code. added the one Module the project required and rebuilt the entire thing. Created a ClickOnce and again it failed to install. No Error message file this time just a message that the application failed to run.

The only thing odd about this project is the Module file. It connects up with a Ghostscript dll though Declare statements. Ghostscript is a set of tools written to convert Post Script to PDF or manipulate PDF files. The proper version Ghostscript files are already installed on all of the target machines including my development machine. The Declares are not called on form load.

The program runs flawlessly on my development machine running in Visual Studio.

Attached is the Module file.

Edit:
It appears that the module was the issue. Removed it and the install works.
Add it back in and it fails.

Tried manually copying the compiled executable to the target machines. It runs without error on all of them.

I guess this means that all files required for a ClickOnce install need to be re-distributable through the install.

I'm suspicious about this:
Code:
Lib "C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.01\bin\gsdll32.dll"
Is the client machine a 64-bit machine? Have you verified the DLL isn't installed in "C:\Program Files(x86)\..."? If there's *any* difference in the path there's going to be a problem.

Generally things work best if you can use relative paths to the DLL you require. In my library, I have to work with a DLL that can be relocated based on installation parameters. So I can't use a path to the DLL in my PInvoke signatures. Instead, the class's type initializer ("Shared Sub New" in VB .NET) does some snooping to find the DLL, then uses the API LoadLibrary() to load that DLL into process memory. Then any PInvoke calls use just the DLL name as their library. Maybe you need something like that.

Edited my post above.

Some Clients are 64 bit. I had another version hard coded for those.
Initially In development I tried to use the the Declares without paths and they would fail.

i can live with Two versions. Fortunately this is not a mission critical application. Certain customers want all of their documentation in PDF format. (Ugh.)

This tool allows me to take anything that can print and batch convert it to PDF on the fly. It requires I create a dedicated Postscript Printer on all the target machines but the whole solution costs nothing.

Attached is a quick and dirty example.

Another No Cost solution may be to use OpenOffice Automation.

Roger,

I've looked at OO before but found the API documentation skimpy at best.
Do you have another source?

Also the link you attached does not relate to PDF. Have you used OO to create a PDF converter?

I have used OpenOffice to create PDF files but have not had the need to automate any office applications. (MS or Open)
I knew that OpenOffice provided for Automation and thought it may provide a solution.
IF I have some time over the next week I may try to develop something for fun.
