Default GDI+ Scrollable Text

Is it possible to reasonably mimick a rich textbox with GDI+ drawn text in VB.net 2003? ("Reasonable" here means without eating up too much memory or suffering too much screen flicker or generally being too slow.)

I would like to use GDI+ in order to have higher quality rendering options exposed, but I also need scrolling, autoscrolling, and the ability to deal with pretty long pieces of text.

GDI+ is new to me, so I don't know if this is an absurd question or whether it is a trifle. I've only begun to look into it, but so far I haven't come across any good resources on the net.

Any links, ideas, or suggestions would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help you can offer....

As long as all you need is to be able to display the text, it shouldn't be a big problem. If you need to allow for editing of the text, then it's probably a bad idea (I won't say it's impossible, but if it is possible, it would probably be tremendously complex and inefficient).

For a simple idea of how to get started drawing text with GDI+, you might have a look at my smooth progressbar example in the .NET Code Library.

Thanks for your reply. I don't need to allow editing, only output. I will take a look at your smooth progressbar example in the .NET Code Library.
