Default Excel File In Use

Hi!

Is there a way to programmatically ensure that an Excel file is available for use by a process?

We are using VB.Net to process Excel 2010 spreadsheets.

We perform these tasks:
  • Move files to a backup folder
  • Remove files that have bad filenames
  • Preprocess good files

The above files are all .xlsx files.

By the time we get to the preprocess stage sometimes we get a clean run but sometimes the files from the Move or Remove stages are still in use thus not allowing a save in the Preprocess stage:

The error we get is:
The process cannot access file'\\server\filestoprocess\~$ReadingCity.xlsx' because it is being used by another process.

We put in a thread sleep to wait for the files to become available from the first two steps. This is definitely not a good solution.

Thanks. Thanks and thanks again.

Ijaz
