Default Excel VB and Visual Studio

I am new to the forum and new to VB. I have inherited some excel macros that I would like to maintain and update as well as some new Excel (and possibly Outlook) macros that I would like to write. The Macros will be run on either Office 2010 or 2013. I have access to Visual Studio 2010. My question is there any value (or can it even be done) using Visual Studio IDE for developing and maintaining Office Macros? I am just getting started and am looking for recommendations on book, videos, etc that will help with my learning curve.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.
