I've experimented a little with XNA. It does some amazing stuff , but with a few down sides. One being you lose control over lower level objects , two being that you can't actually make Xbox games without purchasing a subscription to there game community. Slim DX seems like a better choice for what I'm looking for at the moment. However I haven't had much time to test it out so I don't know yet.
