Hello all,
I'm afraid this one is directed mainly to the Admins and Moderators ...
I was wondering how this forum was written. I'd like to make a forum of my own (don't worry - not a VB forum), but I don't know how. Problem is my provider doesn't allow custom CGI scripts, so I should do it in something else (DHTML ?)
Of all the forums I frequent this one is probabely the best one in layout and functionality.
Thanks,

Another sort of related one, I know what Perl is, but what is PHP?

The answer is actually in the FAQ.
Basically, the engine is from www.wwwthreads.com. Other than that, I can't tell you much. The Webmaster would be the guy to ask. You might try sending him a PM. But check out wwwthreads first.

Also, you can get info about PHP from <a href="http://www.php.net/index2.php"> www.php.net</a>

Sorry about that. I did browse the FAQ but didn't see it.
Must be going blind :-)
Oops, me neither ... sorry :(

At the bottom of each forum page, there is a link to wwwthreads. You
can go there and download a demo version of either/both the PHP and
Perl versions. Look for the Powered by WWWThreads link.
It would be impossible to do a forum such as this with anything less than
server-side scripting, along with database work. PHP is one of the best
languages for this purpose.
I think therefore I am... sometimes right. images/icons/wink.gif
That's too bad, for scripting is not allowed by my provider. Actually it's outrageous : I pay a monthly amount for my cable connection and webspace by one of the largest providers, and they give you no possibilities whatsoever.
I think I'm gonna make a forum in Flash/DreamWeaver, that'll show 'em ;)

You'd still need a database if you choose to use a Flash/XML combo.
You can also get PHP hosting for about 7 bucks a month if you shop around so look out for a good deal.
Good Luck

I'll do that !
I'd use MySQL when stepping to Flash.
