Hi Im newjakexe 09-26-2001, 05:33 PM Hi im new to Direct x can someone give me a good example code to build off of to make a over head cheap rpg game? orufet 09-26-2001, 05:43 PM How much time are you willing to spend? WHAT? You say you DON'T want to spend 2 years working non-stop, not even going to work/school? Why not? LOL, making an RPG is no easy task, especially for a beginner. Most games these days are made in about six months, which have tons of expert programmers (10-100) working every day.....If you don't know DirectX, I would suggest starting simple and making a real easy game like Pong or Spy Hunter. Or, a little harder, Asteroids.... Try here: DirectX 4 VB (http://64.23.12.52//index.asp) and lookout for my upcoming (slowly) DirectX FAQ and starter tutorial....... andrewbean41 09-28-2001, 12:48 PM hi i was wondering how to start from the very scratch in directX "It is better to live one day as a lion than a hundred years as a sheep." orufet 09-28-2001, 04:10 PM How much knowledge of VB do you have? Do you know what an API is? If not, you should try something more simple than DirectX first "I do not agree with a word you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" - Voltaire Squirm 09-29-2001, 05:30 AM Dont worry about API. Im not very good at API at all, I find DirectX muxh easier to use, and also a lot more powerful when it comes to graphics and game programming. But, you must still have a good grasp of all the basic concepts of VB - especially basic coding knowledge. You need to know about: *) All the variable types *) Arrays *) Loops *) Subs and functions *) Error handling *) Objects and their properties and methods *) For a 3D game - rudimentary 3D maths (such as the basic 3D equation) But, as the old saying goes: Where there's a will..... images/icons/wink.gif hashir56 09-29-2001, 03:59 PM to me directx seemed pritty hard and long. i had to memorise all that code and long costant names and was too confusing. But i just switched to an engine and it made everyting so much more simpler. Try switching to an engine. I dont know about the other ones, but Revolution3D (http://www.revolution3d.de) is the one i use and is MUCH easer for me to use and learn |
