Your opinion on creating help files

Hi,

I need, for my appl, something like help files. I don't have so much to put in it, just an introduction to the soft and a quick explanation on how work my functions behind each controls.

I thought about doing a HTML document, called from the appl., where you navigate by hyperlinks for each control listed.

Do you have other good suggestions ? Does VB give a really good and simple way to do it ???

Waiting for your good advice...

Lou

I made one with a small form with a webbrowser and a treeview, so you can link between pages and have the treeview as an index, kinda like MS, it was fairly simple to do

Yeah, that's a good idea. For the browser, did you create your own buttons or did you use an existing OCX ?

I just added my own toolbar as I only wanted back, forward, print, and an always on top button

I'd recommend the Microsoft HTML Help Workshop. Its not particularly wonderful but it is simply to use and it gets the job done.

Unfortunately, I could not find it on the MS website. Maybe someone else knows the address. Alternatively, if your email can handle it, I could send it to you by email (3.34MB).

Your MSDN CDs should contain programs/explanations to help you make *.hlp file and html help files.

I still prefer the hlp files and my guess is that VB Net and Windows XP probably have a different (worse?) help system yet. Can anyone confirm that to be true or false? LOL
