I've realized that the titles we get have a relationship with the number of posts we do. I get a little curious about this numbers, could you tell me?

whatever happened to the fine plans for tiles to be indicative of how usefull your comments were to other forum users as opposed to just hitting 'Continue' 1600 times??...

There wasn't an automatic, reliable way to determine "quality" of "quantity", so the decision was made to use the titles to indicate quantity, and badges (like my 'M' badge or Thinker's 'A' badge) to indicate Moderator and Admin approved quality. The badges, however, are still being worked on but there are a few that have had their titles temporarily changed (The Hand) as a stop-gap measure.

Not forgetting - dcl3500 is an *Expert* too!!

While we're on this topic - when do we get a better color?

None of us could agree on a color for expert. Since you can't have red,
green, or purple, what would you like?

I think therefore I am... sometimes right. images/icons/wink.gif

I guess this should be a joint decision eh dcl3500?

In addition, it needs to be "darker" color (no white, yellow, etc.) -- maybe black (actually, that's what color *I* want to be!)?

Black's a bit close to the normal color i think.

After a brief consultation - we would like orange.
A "nice loud" orange as dcl3500 put it. lol images/icons/wink.gif

Is that alright?

Oh yeah, and another thing. I think when you reach a certain level, where you are answering WAY more questions than asking, then perhaps below your name and title you could have your top 3 key areas of VB, your areas of expertise, in order. Minw might be:

DirectX
Winsock
User Controls

and someone like The_Hand might be:

User Interfaces
Subclassing
API

...... whatdya think?

(why do I always underscore the space between The_Hand ??)

There is no Mega Contributor. I gave that title to myself (yes I cheated images/icons/smile.gif) Senior Contributer is the highst title you can get but when you get to 1600 posts, you get to choose your own title.

Whats wrong with orange? Which colour would you prefer to see Squirm?
And yeh - i agree, we should have some sort of obvious forte... i would also be Winsock.

I thought of that too....but I thought it would be too hard to implement.....maybe it's worth another look.

For those experts and gurus that want it, I wouldn't mind helping in that department (changing titles). However, it would probably be best to use some kind of short-hand unless there's a way I don't know about to give multi-lined titles.

The problem with shorthand is that us regulars here know who is good at what. Newcomers who would need to use the proficiency indicators would not be able to read the shorthand very easily. By the time they learn what they mean they would probably know the people anyway.

Ok, lets say once you reach Contributor, in your Edit Profile options becomes 3 new textboxes, where you can enter your top 3 areas of VB. For people who have filled in the boxes, their expertise will be listed underneath their title, in place of the avatar/picture (which is just a gimick IMHO). Of course, there will be a downside. No doubt it will attract more PMs from newbies with questions specific to our 'top subjects'...... LOL images/icons/wink.gif
