posting etiquette

here actually is a very important question for me and new users..who are new to this whole thing..
How does everyone feel if say:
Someone is handling a problem(a post) and someone randomly jumps in with a post...what I mean is that someone asked for some clarification...got it...but did not post there answer to the problem yet...is it bad etiquette(annoying) to simply jump in and answer???

AFAIC, ALL constructive input is welcome. Sometimes, if a person is 'handling' a question they're not able to stick around to make sure the last message was the last message. Plus, there are *many* different ways to solve most issues, so alternate methods and teaming up on handling questions is good teamwork in my mind.

okay...that sounds great...I just know that some people may get mad if you come in out of the blue and answer...almoast like poaching...maybe I just think in too competitive of a way...I know it is not a competition and it should never be bc the quality of this board(which is the highest I have seen) will drop...thank you all for your responses and time

i also think like kesleyk, it's great to have lots of oppinions, some are complicated and for more advance VB programmers but other stay simple. it's also fun for newbie like myself to participate, you don't always get the felling of asking asking and asking again without ever anwsering questions.

That is how I feel exactly...I dont like just asking and giving nothing in return...I know that there are lot of people more knowledgable than I but I feel the need to at least attempt to answer questions

Well, when you're in the presence of those like Bill and Thinker, we ALL feel that way!

LOL KelseyK. I am going to have to start giving dumb answers so others
won't feel like there is no point in answering. images/icons/wink.gif
Really, there are so many people here who know things I only can hope
to learn. Everyone, feel free to jump in on any question. I can only ask
(including myself) that you read the posts that are already there carefully.
The one thing that bothers me is when five people post answers to a
question that hasn't even been asked, or when someone posts an answer
that has already been posted. (I don't mean when 2 or more people post
the same answer right away - there is no way of telling who is currently
answering the post.)

While I agree wholeheartedly with all thats been said so far, I do have to put my two cents (pennies, soon to be euro-ettes) forward.

If I had been helping someone with a massive project for a long time (the example i will use is project32 and his winsocks) and we were nearing the completion, I would be a little miffed if someone jumped in and gave the final problem solution.
Obviously, thats just me being a little selfish - everyone has the right to join any thread at any time , and should do so!

I dont mean to discourage ppl, please jump into any threads ive posted in at any time, and if i deserve it then flame my *****!! images/icons/wink.gif, just perhaps a little courtesy should be used if two (or more) posters clearly have a little project going.

Tell me if I'm just being silly....

..you're being silly!.....

(ok, that was just me being gratuitous images/icons/wink.gif)

but seriously.. As others have implied, the capacity for individuals to overlook ideas/solutions is ever-present. Diversity is an advantage, and variety can be spicy.
Surely it makes sense to keep an open mind and recieve the input of others as a potential improvement of your (my) own knowledge and scope (either because it was cr*p or 'cos it was way-cool), rather than viewing it as a personal challenge to your (my) integrity or (images/icons/shocked.gif-horror) glory-stealing??

Everyone feel free to butt in on my threads anytime!
(if you can find anything to butt that is..)

Once again I agree timbo. I guess it was just me being sillyl then. I wouldn't be that bothered, it would just be more satisfying to complete something from start to finish.

I didn't aim my last post at anyone in particular, and Im DEFINITELY not trying t discourage ppl from posting where i have. Please. Post away! images/icons/wink.gif
