Okay, I have asked a very little bit about Direct X before, but I would like to learn more about it

1. I've been programming with VB for over a year now, and I make a lot of semi decent Games with ease (tedious work, but with ease (lol)) Would Doing something 2d with Direct X be easy for me to learn?

2. Is Direct X8 strictly 3d?

3. Is there a place that's great for tutorials with Direct X?

Thanx

1.) Ok. DirectX is hard to learn initially, but once you use it a little, you'll get the hang of it. It's more work than not using it for simple games, but you will get much better results. And then there are things that DirectX can do that plain VB cannot (like smooth 3D animated graphics).

2.) Sort of. DirectDraw 8 is non-existant. DirectDraw is the main "section" of DX which is used for 2D games. DirectX is not just graphics. It can play music, connect to the internet, etc.

3.) Yes. There are tons of sites. A simple google search for "directx 8 vb tutorials" or something will get tons of results. One site that Squirm seems to like to recommend is DirectX 4 VB (http://64.23.12.52/SiteMap.asp). One I like is Lucky's VB Gaming Site (http://rookscape.com/vbgaming/).

2) DirectX 8 does not have the DirectDraw, but you can do 2D stuff using Direct3D, which I do event in DirectX 7.
