Advice on a good book for using MSDE/SQL Server and/or Access with VB.net

Hello all,

I've been out of programming about a year, and when I last did it, it was with VB6 and Access 2000.

I've been programming in basic since 1980, and have used VB since VB 3, am very proficient with it, but alas, .NET VB is not quite the same. I don't think that the VB side will give me too much problem to pick up, but the worrisome side is the database side, VB 3-6 and Access worked great for what I needed at the time, as SQL didn't (doesn't?) have the speed necessary for some of the things I needed the program to do.

I've searched Amazon, read tons of reviews, and none of the books *seem* to fit the circumstances I am in. That of an experienced programmer that's fairly new to VB.NET, and also to MSDE/SQL server.

I love useful examples in books. Not whole applications, but merely, "Here's how to connect to a MSDE server on another machine" etc.

Any advice is appreciated, and thank you in advance.

You may want to look at Database Programming with Visual Basic.Net, Second Edition by Carsten Thomas, Publisher - Apress.

If you find it too detailed and technical, you may wish to look at two other books which assumes a fairly good knowledge of visual basic.net and focus more on the database aspects:

(1) Database Access with Visual Basic.NET - Jeffrey McManus

(2) Visual Basic.NET Database Programming - Rod Stephens
