I can nnot get any of the following controls to appear so that i can use them in my program:CommonDialog;DirListBox;FileListBox

Plx could someone help?

For the common dialog control, have you set it as a control with project components? Once this is done you need to place the common dialog icon from toolbox on your form so that you can use it.

whe i go into components i cannot find anythign called common dialog

It appears in controls as Microsoft Common Dialog Control. If this is not there see if you have the file COMDLG32.OCX on your computer, this is what is needed.

I'm afraid these appear automatically for me too and theres no reference to them in the add components window. What version of VB are you using?
