anhmytran 09-01-2000, 12:33 AM How do we know you do not have viruses attached to your files?
Never trust anyone on the Internet when you cannot sue him for a million or more.

Nuke2000 09-01-2000, 02:45 PM it's not a virus ok i don't do that [censored]. i want some one to tell me what they think about my program. i now the names is Nuke2000 but it WILL NOT DO A THING TO YOUR computer. ok i am not that kind of guy. i now if i was you i would d/l it the scan it. thats ok there is not a virus there.
Kwalude 09-01-2000, 03:39 PM It's not just viruses that can 'nuke' your PC. Legitimate programs can do it (ie WinNuke). Think I will pass.
Nuke2000 09-02-2000, 01:43 AM can some one plezzz d/l this and tell me if you like it. what do you want me to give you all so that you can trust me. PLEZZ can some one tell me what they think about my frist program ?
amram71 09-02-2000, 11:38 AM Like I said, I would download it if it wasn't 5.5 megs.
Do something to make it smaller and I'll try it out
farkwit 09-03-2000, 07:50 AM with all these people here, able to program in Vb, they should all know about how easy it is to write hostile code, therefore it is impossible to trust you. A better idea is to send the source files in a winzip application and let the guy look at the code in the vb environment and then they can decide if they want to run it or not, what d ya think?
Sparkey 09-03-2000, 02:26 PM Nuke2000 this lot are being rotten to you.
Ok guys, you're a bit suspicious. Fine. But the guy only wants your opinion. If he didn't value the opinion of the members, he wouldn't have asked for it.
So come on guys, be a bit more supportive. Haven't you all got adequate antivirus and trojan protection?
Anyway, Nuke old buddy, someone has to take a chance eh?
I'm downloading it now.
Sparkey 09-03-2000, 05:14 PM Well Nuke, I downloaded your editor and ran it. I'm a bit of a trekkie, so at least I knew what they all were!!
If you want it, here's my opinion.
Things I liked.
I liked the app. I like the idea of adding the guns I want. It's well laid out and easy to use. The menus are simple and the graphics are very very good. It installed well, it ran well and it has It's own unistall program.
Things I didn't like so much.
It appears to be programmed for 1024x786 resolution (it was fine in this when I tried it), but I, like the majority, use 800x600 so the forms loaded up in the bottom right corner of my screen - half off the screen - and I had to drag them to the centre.
The uninstall program did not unistall everything. It left behind the folder on the c: drive and the exe file. It also left the registry key in the windows registry.
The install placed a shortcut on the program menu, but this did not have the link to the exe file, instead it had the link to the uninstall. I had to run the exe file from the folder on the c: drive.
Although the graphics were good, some of the forms had so many combo boxes you could barely see the graphics. These might have been better as 'mousemove' events where the combo box appears when the user passes the mouse over the relevant bit or something.
The main menus could no with a bit of colour.
Having said all that, I think you have a good idea and it would be great to play the game and get to add all your own guns!!
To all those out there who didn't trust you Nuke, I have this message:-
MY SYSTEM IS FINE. HIS PROGRAM DID ABSOLUTELY NO HARM TO MY SYSTEM. I HAVE RUN DEEP SCANS WITH NORTON ANTIVIRUS, THE CLEANER, AND 2 PROGRAMS THAT FIND 'SPYFILES' AND ONCE AGAIN......
MY SYSTEM IS CLEAN!!!!
Well, hope that cleared a few things up.
Look forward to the update Nuke!!
Nuke2000 09-03-2000, 08:50 PM thank you and sorry about the 1024x786 resolution i have 2 21" monters. i will fixs that and about the unistall that was the frist time i use the program with a uninstall. so sorry about that. And it's not so much you about the graphics it's about if you can see where the combox box's line put. If you can see the lines coming for the ships graphic to the Combo boxs. know this mousemove thing can i make it so the user and hide some of the combo boxs so they can see the graphics and see where some of the lines go.
and did you get the flash intro or not?
thank you for trusting me.
I would like to get other ppl thought on it also ?
Sparkey 09-04-2000, 11:15 AM Hi Nuke,
Firstly, of course I trusted you. I've seen your posts on this board and didn't think for a second that you would allow us to download anything but the genuine article. I secretly think the others believe that too, but your screen name throws them a bit!!! You can see why! That's just unfortunate, but maybe now that they know everything is ok, they will test it for you too.
Next, yes I DID get the flash intro!! Very good it was too! Great colours!
About the uninstall and the program menu shortcuts, I mention them because I know that you are busy concentrating on the app and those are the niggly little things that come last, but still need to be sorted. Just so you were aware of them, that's all.
As for the resolution, I also have a 21" monitor, but still use 800x600 as that's the most widely used resolution. gives me less problems when surfing!! You could make your app adaptable for both resolutions, just see previous posts. There are quite a few on this topic.
Next, yes I agree that the way you have done it DOES clearly show the line from the combo box to the relevant part of the ship where the gun is. If you use a mousemove event, then probably you would need to change the graphics to look like an 'x-ray' if you like, showing the inside of the craft with graphics for the guns. The user moves the cursor over the graphic, it highlights, they click it and then they get the combo box...or something. However, that would mean a few things. I.E. When the gun is changed, the graphic would need to change, with a lot of forms, the amount of extra graphics would mean longer load times and very much longer download times as it would be heavier.
I've had another look at it, and I think that if your purpose is functional more than anything else, then the way you have it is probably the best way. The way it is, the user sees instantly where the guns will be (the lines) and when you have the input file done with the gun names, they will show instantly in the combo boxes.
As it is just now, it is very easy to use and very easy to understand the concept of what the user has to do without any user manual having to tell them "you must move the mouse cursor over....blah..blah".
Actually, what I forgot, and I think you did too, was what happens when the user's mouse is Kaput!! They need to be able to do everything with the keyboard. Something to think about.
Please don't think I'm being critical, or cheeky. I don't mean to be. I'm just trying to be honest. There isn't much point in anyone testing it if they are not honest about their findings, that wouldn't help you.
Anyway, mine is only one opinion and not representative of the majority. So you need more members to test this.
Nuke2000 09-04-2000, 12:20 PM thank you and i am working on a main with short cut keys. I also wnat to thank you in trusting me with the name Nuke2000 it's kind for hard to. About making the ships x-ray and the user moves the mouse over the gun and it hight lights thats cool. And i might think about that but for right now i am going to keep it the way it is. I think you again for you time in testing my program.
Sparkey 09-04-2000, 06:27 PM I think you're right to keep it as it is. A version that supports keyboard shortcut keys is good too. You can always change it later if you want to include mousemove events.
I hope that others reading this will test it as well.
