About post counters

Hi there!

I've just noticed a strange thing. I was looking at the post made by "The Hand". When I marked the forum as "Read" and later returned to that same post it indicated that The Hand has only something like 769 posts on his sholders rather then 3400 or something. And also his title changed the color to orange (I think that was the acctual color...).

Any idea why this happened? Or is it my ME(Win ME) to be blamed for?

I don't remember having seen Hand posting that much items, it think the 760 will be about right.

Yes! You're quite right about that. I've looked at his profile and there are 759 posts on him. Then the 3400+ was the wrong one. Either way that's what happened.

Figured I'd stop in and say something.

I'm not nearly as prolific as Thinker and the other admins/mods here... I generally sit back and only answer those people who have a question which requires my expertise. There are alot of really quick people here and the few times I have tried to post to normal questions, our Experts and Gurus beat me to the punch before I got my answer posted.

Generally, I look at a post and decide if

1) It has lots of GDI32 stuff in it
2) It has alot of subclassing/hooking stuff in it
3) It has some other GUI customization in it
4) It requires more than a 3 line explanation

It has to have two of those things before I'll try to answer... and I have to feel like the user understands what they are getting themselves into.

As such, my post count is pretty low. But for having joined the forum in July of last year... My post count was actually closer to 805 at the point the forum died (I had just made Senior Contributor), but honestly I don't particularly care. I figured the difference would be made up in reposts of source and screenshots.

That being said, keep your eyes peeled for my lastest installment of the memory bitmaps module in the code library. Enough people have pestered me and I'm over trying to solve the nitpicky windows ME problem (i.e. it doesn't work under ME :()

Okay, this is nothing to do with post count, but related to posting.

I have just now been seriously annoyed by the forum. After typing out a rather long post, I submitted it, and it told me I had too many smilies (little faces like ;), I had about 7) and I should go back and fix them. When I return to the 'Create Post' page, all my lovely post has gone! A waste of a good ten minutes there, at least! I'm not sure I can be bothered to write it all out again (and search for the URLs). Tip of the day : copy your post to clipboard before you hit Submit

Good idea, for a large post anyway. I lost one earlier myself. Someone sent me a private message, and I had the pop-up thing turned on, and I clicked ok accidentally, and *poof*....
