Male or female sounds a little better.

Although my wife might sometimes think I act like a boy, I'm really a man...or to summarize without argument...I'm a male.

Being male, methinks the programmerettes are going to end up in the minority here... but I will say that the few female programmers who I have worked with professionally have tended to be the better of the species! Have not yet found a female assembly programmer though! :cool:
