Hey I have never done anyhting where I had to inislize the modem so I am new to this part of programming. any way I am working* or maybe I should say "starting on"* a project that is going to have alot of the same concepts as microsofts phone dialer. I dont know what I should use to open a connection to the modem, can any one give me a list of different ways to connect I know there are OCX's that I can get and I know that I could do it all manualy but I dont know how that will affect preformance and or trouble on my programing end. I would like to be able to select different modems if they have them. I saw somebody in the forum talking about winsock can you with winsock open that kind of connection and/or tell when some one calls in on that phone line. can I if I call some one send media through that open port?

thanks guys, I know you guys will give it your best shot at finding out if you dont know, I Love that about this forum it is not one of those takes three weeks and then the answer you get is rude kind of forums.

Just add the MSComm control to your project and look for some examples in the help.

Alright then this looks good but I need to know ,
can I send a audio file through my modem and have it play on the oother side if I am connected to someone with a normal hand held phone?
I am sure that it can be done but the question is wether I have to get down and make it do what I want with heavy codeing or if I can jsut use an OCX.

You can send audio over a MsComm, but its complicated, you'd be better off using someone elses OCX i think....
