Agent707 07-09-2004, 10:08 PM ... then you havent' been watching Jeopardy lately!
What is it with this guy "Ken Jennings " on Jeopardy? He's won 28 days straight now!! I watched him whip the crap out of his opponents today. It looked like shooting fish in a barrell.
He walked away with another $52,000 today making his 28 day winning streak in excess of $920,000.
OMG! This guy is as sharp as a 300 fold katana!
He's a 30 year old programmer... Kinda makes me feel good that the smartest guys are not rocket scientist, but programmers. :D
This guy is a human database!
 I wonder if he's going to break a MILLION!
----------------------
How well do you think you would do on a show like that? I would suck! :D
I haven't seen the show but I'd like to see what kind of things he has to do to win 28 times in a row. Maybe he programmed the computer that deals the questions or whatever...
Rockoon 07-10-2004, 11:02 AM If he was an "average" contestant then the odds against this (28 wins in a row) happening is:
22,876,792,454,960:1 against.
But.. if he is twice as likely to win as the average contestant, then his odds drastically improve:
85,222:1 against.

I believe his odds are much better than that. I only saw one show, and the other contestants didn't have a chance in hell. From what I've read about the other shows, pretty much no one has had a chance to win. He eventually does get beat though. (You know these shows are taped a long time ago). But he's not allowed to talk about any of it until after it's over.
Jeopardy is kind of like a "Trivial Pursuit" game - if you follow me.
It's not really a "fun" game show to watch... but watching this guy is just too amazing.
EracMan 07-12-2004, 09:31 AM Not to downplay his abilities, but it reminds of a movie I once saw called "Quiz Show". It's a pretty good movie but it makes you question the validity of some shows on TV.
A guy winning 28 days in a row is a great way to boost ratings, don't you think?
MikeJ 07-12-2004, 03:47 PM Well, I saw him when he was on his 14th show... Then I saw him the other day on his 21st. What's interesting is that I've gotten about 65% of the questions right that he's gotten correct. I wonder what the "average" person's chance at getting on the show is though?
jauwaert 07-12-2004, 04:25 PM From what I've seen, most Jeopardy! questions aren't that difficult. Most people will do fairly well at them. The greater challenges up there are reflexes and nerves. I've never been on Jeopardy!, but I was on my school's quiz bowl team for four years, so I know how hard it can be to be up there and have to answer questions rapid-fire like that. In addition, they film five shows a day, so he really has nerves of steel to keep answering so well.
I haven't watched Jeopardy! in years though. I mean, double the cash? It wasn't always about the money...
charlie 07-12-2004, 04:47 PM Oh, here in Spain we don't see Jeopardy... A pity... :(
Agent707 07-13-2004, 07:09 AM Yea, I figured there would be a lot of people here who didn't see this show. Goes with the territory. :)
MikeJ 07-13-2004, 11:23 AM Actually, Jeopardy is syndicated I believe, and is broadcast (at least here) in SAP, which is where they will record over the voices (read: dub 'em). So, it might be several seasons delayed, but you might still be able to get them abroad. (Just like the Americans get the BBC if they have cable - although they renamed it to BBCA [British Broadcasting Corp. America])
charlie 07-13-2004, 04:46 PM I got satellite TV but I don't see it. What I said: a pity... :(
