Need help with project: Phone Dialer type program

Hello everyone,

I need some help with a project i'm working on for work. I work for Regions Financial as an automation specialist. I formerly worked for Union Planters Bank (for those of you who don't know, UP and Regions merged this month). What i need the program to do is this:


Dial a specific phone number (program only needs to dial 1 phone number luckily)
Check for a voice prompt
Check for "all circuits busy" voice
Check for no answer
Check for a busy signal
Log the results of each call
Send email/alert on red flags


My questions are how do i even go about trying to develop an application or service to do this? Do i "have" to have a modem to do this, or can the call be made over the internet? I'm really clueless about this type of programming, all i've ever done is database programming. So i'm a little excited to finally write a program that does something other than add/read/delete records in a database. I'm not sure on the time frame this will need to be completed, but i'm assuming it would need to be done fairly quickly. But any input (other than smart remarks) would be appreciated, thanks.

Google. Read up on TAPI, waveoutopen, waveinopen etc.

I found a few mentions of this sort of project while lloking for info on sound stuff.

You could probably link it to a voice-over-ip telephone service if you tried hard enough but a voice-capable modem will be much easier.
