Jordan Knezevic 08-18-2004, 05:39 PM Well, Im sorta bored so I just decided to start this topic. Please post where you THINK you'll be in 4 years!
Anyways.... I guess I'll go first, I think I'll be graduating grade 12 in 4 years and going to University of Waterloo (I live in Canada).
alp0001 08-18-2004, 05:52 PM I very much dislike this question because it gets asked in interviews way too often. :(
I don't mind having a goal of what I would like to accomplish by the end of the next year, but 4, 5, 10 years from now? I would love to tell them to go talk to the psychic friends network and let me know whats going to happen. :-\
But if you really want to know, four years from now I probably will be creating software at some big company and my wife is telling me to get off the computer at home. :D
Iceplug 08-18-2004, 06:29 PM Where will YOU be in 4 years?!?!?
Hopefully, working for you and making your work easier... oh, whoops, that's what the interview book says to answer.
In 4 years I'll either be teaching or working on a superdiploma. :)
pikzel_R 08-18-2004, 08:23 PM Where do you think you'll be in four years!
Right where I am now :(
PWNettle 08-18-2004, 08:38 PM four years from now I probably will be creating software at some big company and my wife is telling me to get off the computer at home.
Sounds exactly like what I'll be doing - err...or what I'm already doing. I hope to continue doing this with the addition of making more money at it.
Paul
Jordan Knezevic 08-18-2004, 09:12 PM Wow... Lots of "Positive" answers. Lol. Well since you're all done with school and are talking bout your jobs/careers. Im hoping to program games for some big company such as Blizzard and eventually move on to found my own game creation company. Doubt the last wish would ever happen, but hey can't I dream?
Jordan Knezevic 08-18-2004, 09:17 PM Where do you think you'll be in four years!
Right where I am now :(
Ooh yeh, we can all see pikzel is a manual quoter
Timbo 08-19-2004, 05:20 AM I imagine that I'll be in Rio De Jinero wearing a tutu and flogging an organic compond of crushed seashells and goats saliva to American tourists!
Honestly, as you get older (and I'm only 30), you look back and go "I never would have thought it!". If I knew 4 years ago what I do now, I would have had myself committed as dillusional :p The thought of 4 years from NOW fills me with aprehension - excitement too - but mostly aprehension :)
ElderKnight 08-19-2004, 07:07 AM I spent, maybe thirteen years trying to get out of my last job. About that time I resigned myself to staying there. Next thing you know, there's a contract change and we all had to make other plans.
But I can see four years as some kind of optimal level of predictability. You need to know where you'll be in two years, but if you know where you'll be in six, you're in a rut.
Wamphyri 08-19-2004, 10:00 AM Four years from now:
I should be able to finally remember the names of all my co-workers in the IS division. (Should be easy most seem to be named "Hey You").
I should still be working(some say living) in the looney bin.
I should have or be close to having my Golden Gloves by then.
I should have a different avatar.
I'll likely have gotten around to doing the dishes from last week.
rick_deacha 08-19-2004, 10:07 AM IŽll be 4 years older :chuckle:
ElderKnight 08-19-2004, 10:50 AM IŽll be 4 years older :chuckle:
Not if you pass 29 or 39 along the way you won't.
That suggests an old quote from legendary baseball manager Casey Stengel. Something like "We've got a thirdbaseman here, eighteen years old. In another year he's got a chance to be . . . nineteen."
00100b 08-20-2004, 11:51 AM Back on Mars, without the Earth blocking my view of the Sun.
DaveyB 08-20-2004, 11:58 AM 4 years: finish uni and start traveling...hm probably tailand
bear24rw 08-20-2004, 12:09 PM in 4 years i will hopefully be going to a good college to major in robotics and/or CS
Bljashinsky 08-20-2004, 01:29 PM In 4 years:
Publish my first 3d indie game and win some awards by 2005 or 2006.
Finish high school at a local junior college.
I hope to have worked at least one year on a commercial AAA game title at a local development company by the time I graduate high school. (Almost got a job there this year so things are looking bright).
Go to UAT to get a Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering.
Work at Rainbow Studios, start my own studio, or relocate to work at another company.
Not get married for a while or ever so I can relocate without having to worry about hurting my family.
Hopefully go to E3, GDC, etc. again and have someone know me.
an5w3r 08-20-2004, 02:35 PM In 4 years I would probably graduate the University from my city and looking for work... :D
Not so interesting? That's the cruel reality...
herilane 08-20-2004, 03:54 PM I have no idea whatsoever.
I haven't been able to see 4 years into the future since the first year of university, when I was reasonably sure that 4 years later I would graduate. And even that turned out to be wrong; I took a year off for other things so my degree took 5 years instead of 4.
I don't know which country I will live in, what job I will have, or what I will be doing in my spare time. And I think that's exactly as it should be. :)
Vadon 08-20-2004, 05:36 PM I probably will be finishing highschool and living in boston doing two part-time jobs trying to live there enough years so that I can get the residential price-cut for MIT.
MikeJ 08-21-2004, 06:15 PM In 4 years I'll either be teaching or working on a superdiploma. :)
You should go for the Dr. Plug. Or maybe Dr. Ice <-- you could sell chewing gum with that name! (Of course, that would be 8 years - or in your case 6 ;) - but oh well!)
heiatufte 08-22-2004, 05:00 PM Well, if anyone cares: I, who live in Norway and almost haven't travelled longer than to our neighboor, will in 4 years move to Canada without telling my girlfriend, parents or anyone I know, bring all my money, make new friends, snowboard all day long (in the winter) and when the money ends I'll commit suicide. Or at least that's my dream. What a life :D
Vadon 08-22-2004, 11:37 PM Ummm, you... just... told us...
Denaes 08-23-2004, 12:18 AM Well, Im sorta bored so I just decided to start this topic. Please post where you THINK you'll be in 4 years!
I'll be back in California (in NY currently) with my wife. I'll have just finished my BS in Computer Science one way or another (I have a 2yr in InfoTech with a lean on software development). My personal buisiness will be booming and I'll be happy doing that.
I'll also be working for another company mostly for benifits which may not really have anything to do with programming, though like the last bank I worked at, after explaining to them that shaving off 4 hours of work each day by automating backups, procedures, copies, etc they can save mucho bucks and the computer dept might actually have time to do what they're supposed to do. Then they'll ask me to write programs, only give me like an hour a day to do so, then complain when it takes 4 weeks to get anything noticable and ultimately change their mind on what they want when I'm like 95% done shifting me back to about 40% done, then complaining even more about the length of time and wanting to see results and wondering were the results they just saw when to.
I'll be well on my way to being naturally bald (right now I'm artificially bald), probobly have my first child - Merlin or Minerva - be hiding a ferret or two in my house (ferrets are illegal in CA for a really stupid reason  ) and probobly have a little watch holographic computer which links to my mind and increases my work(play)load by 1594% :D
italkid 08-23-2004, 07:47 AM In 4 years:
Publish my first 3d indie game and win some awards by 2005 or 2006.
In 4 years we will be in, hmmm lemmy think..... 2008 ?? ;)
In 4 years i'll be most likely be somewhat, somewhere, somehow a little bit
different then i am now...
I'll tell you in 2008 what happend :)
Skyhawk 08-23-2004, 11:34 AM Where will you be in 4 years?
Earth. That's really all I can be sure of right now. Hopefully, I should be on my way to my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, and then on my way to some big company that will overuse and underpay me.
Mathijsken 08-23-2004, 01:36 PM I won't start with a "I hope that I'll ..." cos that's a little ordinary,
I'll be travelling the world in 4 years, if I finsihed university by then (some Bachelor thing I guess), so beware as I may strand on your doorstep one day!!! Whohahhaaaaa
And appart from living in the Nirvana state as much as possible (never I guess), I'm planning to not have any other goals, carpe diem, shanti shanti and Akoenamatata are my ways of life I guess...
Mathijs
EDIT: sorry about the numerous "I guess"'es
Loktar 08-25-2004, 04:17 AM Ill be just ending my first enlistment in the USAF but not sure as of yet if ill enlist again if I do ill be a SSgt working on computers still if I dont ill hopefully be getting a high paying network job because its easy to get hired when you have tons of experience like working on networks in the desert.
panchopp 08-30-2004, 01:39 PM Well, if anyone cares: I, who live in Norway and almost haven't travelled longer than to our neighboor, will in 4 years move to Canada without telling my girlfriend, parents or anyone I know, bring all my money, make new friends, snowboard all day long (in the winter) and when the money ends I'll commit suicide. Or at least that's my dream. What a life :D
Yeah!! The only one determined to do something with his life..
I'll be laying around under some newspaper surrounded by homeless people reading from that newspaper how the now world emperor 'Bill C' is making a giant 2000 meter statue of Windows Logo. Nice, isn't it?
Faith 09-01-2004, 04:46 PM At this rate, next stop, hell! :(
Vega la Luce 09-03-2004, 06:58 AM a spaceman and a scientist
peanutman 09-04-2004, 03:56 AM in 4 years i should be doing my last year of university, or am already graduated (depends on what i do)
then i'll be free person with the world at my feet, propably have to live alone then, get a job & stuff
oh, and if i have time left i'll conquer the world
Vadon 09-04-2004, 11:57 AM ... If you were serious about the conquering the world thing, I could give you some what not to dos from my last attempt.
Bart1123 09-08-2004, 09:55 AM The thing I find most fascinating/humbling is the number of posts in this thread that say "Graduating HS, or College". Makes me wonder if I waiting until my early 30's was too long :whoops: Anyway I wish succsess to you all.
In 4 years I know I'll be watching my oldest son start 1st grade or graduate High School (He's alot smarter than his old man) and my yougest son will be starting Kindergarden or Middle School (He's as smart as his brother)
I think my wife will continue to put up with me and keep me around to cook.
I'll still be customizing AutoCAD products (hopefully supervising others doing it) or I'll be back in school working on some other degree.
I plan to still be looking to this site and it's wonderful members for advice, help, and enjoyable distractions such as this.
I'll let you know how it all pans out. ;)
Bart
Abdhul 09-14-2004, 11:26 PM After much thought and meditation, I have arrived at my conclusion.
In 4 years I will be.... 22!
alt_255 09-16-2004, 05:37 AM In 4 yrs, I will be approx. 21 and leaving the Australian Defence Force Academy (Bachelor Computer Science) and then going on to my dream job in the Royal Australian AirForce
TheFaramir 09-17-2004, 01:50 PM Where will YOU be in 4 years?!?!?
Ruling the world with an iron fist! MUUAHAHAHAAAA!
(Go ahead. Say that during a job interview. I double-dog dare you! :D )
peanutman 09-18-2004, 01:46 PM heeeey, that was my idea, and there can only be one ruler of this world ... (me)
Vadon 09-18-2004, 11:14 PM I tell you what, I will take it over for you, give it to you, and then... A friend of mine will gladly assassinate you so she could rule. ^_^
00100b 09-18-2004, 11:24 PM Heh. According to my previous post in this thread (#13), then there won't be a world for any of you to rule.
Where's the KABOOM? There's supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!
MikeJ 09-18-2004, 11:58 PM Where's the KABOOM? There's supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!
That's what happens when you go for the ACME franchise on Mars. Everyone knows that franchises far away from their base of operations always have inferior products. ;)
webbone 09-19-2004, 12:39 AM I have no idea what is in store in the future, especially 4 years from now (spatially and temporaly).
That being said, it doesn't matter, since living one day at a time is all that we need to do. No use future tripping when you have today! :D
Mathijsken 09-19-2004, 12:50 AM Hey what a nice attempt of webbone to get us back to the topic!
;)
