I am stuck at work late tonight, staring at my Outside View terminal emumalation screen. It features a visual toolbar representing the whole spectrum of Tandem function keys (since modern keyboards only go up to F12). I've never worked on actual Tandem terminals (nor have I worked on anything later than a VT220 ); did they really honestly and trule have TWENTY-FOUR (24) frickin' function keys?

That's like totally a lot of keys. I don't think our application uses anything past F16 (which Outside View lets us map to Esc).

ahh, the glory days of green-screen....

I believe the IBM 3151 had 24 function keys as well. It wasn't that unusual.

Here's some pics of a Nokia keyboard with 24 function keys:

I remember using a custom VT220 emulator (orange/amber screen) that allowed for up to 32 functions keys to be mapped...

Now what was F23 used for again?

We have plenty of terminals with 24 function keys. I'm not sure if we use all 24, but they are there.

I like the little overlays that you place that list each key's function.

Come to think of it, things were better in the 70's; when DEC's state-of-the-art was the VT52 and the W(yes _W_)T78.

Their keyboards had all different colors; black and red and green and blue and yellow....aaaahhhh

Some airline desks still have vintage stuff like that. I so prefer it to today's beige.

(Thick Accent) Beige? ...Beige? I don't need no stinking Beige! :chuckle:

Sorry, had to make the refrence - As my keyboard illuminates a light blue color.
