Peripheral drift illusions

I've always been a fan of optical illusions, and recently ran across some cool ones on another site:

In the process of trying to figure out how they worked, I ran across this (http://www.psy.ritsumei.ac.jp/~akitaoka/PDrift.pdf) rather nice little article. The human mind is such an amazing toy. Just thought I'd share. :)

"How the mind works" by Stephen Pinker has a good chapter on these illusions and why we see them..plus it is all about weighten neural networks flip-flopping which brings in the nerd element.
