showing only some DB fields in flexgrid

Hi. I have a flexgrid bound to a database. Even if I set the number of columns in the grid to (say) 8, it still shows all 12 of the database's fields.
My two questions are:
1) What's the point in writing
form.grid.cols=8
if more than 8 fields get shown?
2) Can you get the grid to display only those 8 fields and not the rest?

It's all about:

- returning a recordset with 8 fields only
or
- hiding the columns you don't want to be displayed

To hide a column you simply set ColWidth property to 0

MSFlexGrid.ColWidth(i)=0
