now then people, this is my problem. i have created a simpe database with access, then tried connecting to it via visual basic 6. this is my error = unrecognized database format C:\db1.mbd --- now i know its posssible to connect to access, and have done so via test files, but when i try it myself it doesnt seem to work? does anyone have any suggestions.

An ADO tutorial would be helpful, so here is a link:
For a valid list of connection strings, you want to use OLE DB for Access, look here:
What version of Access are you using? If Access 2000 and higher, you want to use the Jet 4.0 provider, if Access 97 you want to use Jet 3.51.
And make sure you have downloaded at least service 5 for VB, an updated version of MDAC (go with at least 2.7) and updated Jet Providers. This can all be downloaded from MSDN.

using access 2000, as a basic simple way, i wanted to use the data source to target the access file, (avoiding lenthy code) i have pack 6... is there a update to enable the use of new access......... or ......... can excel cells be directed to text box's????

Show us your current code. And again, did you download all the updates I talked about in my last post. If not, that is a good place to start. Are you using ADO?
