Mine is 2.2360679775 - it's roughly the square root of five. I like it because we were made to determine it without using the square root button on a calculator at school about 10 years ago. It took about 2 hours of trial and error so the whole lot stuck in my head

I rather like Avogadro's Number, the number of atoms on a gram-atom of any element. I drop this one as an outeageously big number, e.g., "The odds against success are aproximately 6.02 x 10^23 to one, Captain."

When I need a smaller number to make a point, I'll use 3.14159.

00100b, that is very appropriate!! And might I ask why 42 is the answer??

Personally mine is 13, it appears everywhere in my life (I was born at 1313, left the hospital and went to house number 13 on my street. and more) Either that, or Planck's Constant (6.626^-34), coz I love physics, and think Planck was a genius.

Favourite Numbers?! How can you have a favourite?
Hmmm- I'm a big fan of 42 - amongst ye geeks it must be obvious as to why...

I've always liked 9- it's so nifty- evenly odd, plus K-9 (from Dr Who)

7 because it's the opposite of 9. It's odd. and that's all. (And NOT lucky...)

89 rolls off the tongue so nicely- well put to use for exaggeration accounts (i.e. "This is the 89 BILLIONTH time he's called me today!")

2. what other number can be more useful than 2? 2 + 2 = 5. (and not only for extremely large values of 2.- Ignorance is Strength.) There are 10 kinds of people in this world.... those you understand binary and those who don't.

Following along that topic....10. 1010 is 10.

and of course....57006, which is the number of dead people that can read hex besides you. ^_^ Picking a favourite? Can't be done.

I can't hide from the fact that the number 1 is intrinsically linked to me. I am the 1st son of the 1st son of a 1st son, I was born on the 1st in the 11th month, the first four digits of my date of birth are 1111. I think my favorite number to work with is 24. You can divide it in half, thirds, quarters, sixths, or eights (and technically twelveths, but I don't have the need to do that very often). And it's almost 25, so you can multiply it by 4 and almost have an even 100.

n(2n-2) = n(2n-2)

n(2n-2) - n(2n-2) = 0

(n-n)(2n-2) = 0

taking (2n-2) = 0

2n-2 = 0

2n = 2

n + n = 2

SO doesn't matter if you take any no. my favorite 2

Wow... this thread keeps staying alive... I'm wondering what the Total, Average, Median, Min and Max are among the favorite numbers here? :chuckle:

That'd be hard to tell, as probably a third of the people are giving irrational numbers.. or imaginary numbers..

982,007,569, because:
1) It's 31337^2
2) It has '007' in it
3) It has '69' in it

Also Pi*E but I forget what that actually is. ^_^; I also tend to throw around 4,294,967,295 because it's a big number that I can remember (what with being 0xFFFFFFFF and all).

7 and 42.
I was born o a 7th... my parents too... I met my 1st girldfriend on a 7th... I like it... It's really a lucky number for me despite of what people say... I think it's the 1st prime which is really strange
And 42 is (has been, was, will be -I hope-) very present in my life.

the sideways 8 that has to be the best number ever imagined.

that should make the mean, maximum and total all being my other favourite number.

ps sideways 8:

good old infinite :chuckle:

That just leaves median, mode and minimum to be calculated.
