Picture box colors

is there any fast & easy way to convert the colors in a picture box to 256 colors i need to send a picture over the net i converted it to bytes and compressed it but its to big any way so i that is this possble?

Go to www.vbaccelerator.com and do a search, there are a lot of algorithm to reduce colors with/with out dithering etc...
