The Best Visual Basic Book..av8orboy 03-19-2002, 05:43 PM What is the best book for someone getting started with VB? I don't have much/any programming experince. Thanks. Steve John 03-19-2002, 05:54 PM Visual Basic Step By Step from Microsoft press is geared to the verry very new programmer with no experience. The Visual Basic Black Book from Coriolis is also good if you are smart enough to be able to read between the lines as it doesn't really give an overview of the basics, but it tries! HTH, Orbity MoMo 03-19-2002, 06:17 PM Wrox Press also makes an excellent selection of VB Books. These are 3 good ones that I have read or am reading so far: Beginning Visual Basic 6 - Peter Wright Beginning Visual Basic 6 Objects - Peter Wright Visual Basic 6 Win32 API Tutorial - Jason Bock Beginning Visual Basic 6 Databases These books can be found at www.wrox.com. They start you from the ground up as if you are new to programming all together. I'm sure there are better books out there, but these worked pretty good for me so far. They have good examples throughout the book and exercises as well so you get plenty of hands on. ... and for some crazy reason my typing is coming out italicized. =( kinar 03-19-2002, 06:45 PM i would also have to agree that the Peter Wright book is very good for someone that has no programming experience... but if you have experience with other languages i would pass on the Wright book. it is a very basic book that is easy to learn vb from and covers a lot of subjects but it does not go very deep into any any one subject. if you have experience programming in another language.....i cant even recommend a book because i have yet to find one that fits my needs....i have actually found this forum to be better than any vb book ive looked at. just my humble opinnion VB_ACK 03-20-2002, 12:11 AM I would recommend, "Learn to Program With Visual Basic", by John Smiley. Very easy and straight forward to follow. Not to mention it's only $20.99 USD. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1902745000/qid=1016607433/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/002-5540110-0425608 Pookie 03-20-2002, 12:58 AM The only Visual Basic book I bought which was when I first started was 'Visual Basic 6 Complete', it has 1000 pages and is/was $19.95USD at the time. cagri 03-22-2002, 07:01 AM I found the cheapest webstore for the books and everything.. www.TheCheapStore.com |
