You can write most things in VB, RTS games, as in like Command & Conquer? Depends of how simple or complex you wish to make the game.

The more realism you wish to add to the game, the more cpu/gpu power you will need to run it, as in smooth animations of everything running around compared to simple tile movements...

It shouldn't be hard to write though (well for me anyways. :D) but this sort of thing will be more of a big scale project then a little one and will take ages to draw all the graphics and write all the code....

As for tutorials, I'd guess you would have to do a search on some VB sites. has lots of code on there so they might have some RTS games on it to give you some ideas...

I suggest DirectX for any serious game, if you want any kind of speed. I once almost made a 3D RTS in D3D 7. Well, the engine was done but there were no models and textures.

*sigh* :D

Look at DirectX 4 VB ( for tutorials starting at the beginner level.
