I wanted to start a thread on recommended web hosting solutions just for the sake of swapping ideas and sources.

My favorite webhosting services is www.abac.com

For only $9.95 monthly I get 500 MB of space, a Unix server with CGI support, unlimited bandwidth usage, 5 email addresses, a domain name, and statistics.

They have very fast servers, excellent service, and will provide NT hosting options upon request.

I think it all matters as to what you're looking for. You can easily get a Linux/PHP combination for 7 bucks, but you'll be hard pressed to find an ASP solution at such a cheap price. Your best bet is to shop around and compare prices, ensuring that the host you choose is reliable and friendly.

I'll shortly be looking for a decent ASP.NET one if anyone stumbles upon one.

Re: VB_ACK

I'm on www.netweaver.com - its a British company for any other brits out there. They do a Linux solution with 25MB of space and 5GB bandwidth a month, for £35 a year, plus stats of course. Not bad at all.

I use www.34sp.com another UK company. 20Mb storage, 20Gb bandwidth, PHP, mySQL, can't remember what else for about $18 per year USD. Been using them for almost a year now and they have never been down. Not too shabby for that price IMO.

I have used this company in the past. www.amhosting.com
For 11.95 a month you get 100MB of storage and unlimited data transfer. Of course they do charge extra if you run server intensive functions. I can't post everything they give you, but it pretty much covers what you need. I just stumbled upon them one day and was impressed with the prices and features. :D

Server downtime is a little annoying, but they're generally really good. I love them...

I recently place one of my clients on www.readyhosting.com

$99 USD/yr, 500Mb disk, unlimited bandwidth. IIS 5.0

It's been only a week now, but at times it seems a bit slow.

Valueweb (http://www.valueweb.net) - Standard Web Hosting (http://www.valueweb.net/products/standard_hosting.html)

Basics: 200 MB of disk storage.
10 GB - that’s 10 gigabytes (10 billion bytes of data transfer/month).
20 POP3 e-mailboxes with unlimited forwards, aliases and auto-responders.
They got great tech support. I called them up and they fixed a major problem I had.

Advanced: Active Server Pages
Your own cgi-bin directory
CGI script library
Server Side Includes
SSL Secure Server
Microsoft FrontPage 2002
Server Extensions
Miva Script
Python
PHP
MySQL Server
$15/month option

All that for $19.95 per month with a $30.00 set-up fee. I bought that but now it seems like to much money. What do you think?

Agent, I was with them for 18 months or so, I did not like anything about them.( speed, service, price ( at the time I paid $25 US/month)

What was wrong with the service?

How bad/is the speed? I have dial-up so I can't tell. I would need some fast modem ppl to tell me and compare with other sites.

Agent, do you realize that it's a UNIX machine.

To compare the speeds, I had placed several files on my web as well as several client's sites, then monitored the download speeds.

At the time their tech support was less than I expected. (maybe they've improved)

do you realize that it's a UNIX machine. You say this but fail to enlighten me as what is wrong with a UNIX machine. I have never used one before so I aint going to talk badly about one.

Yeah they must have improved on helping people because I called there free (didn't see a charge on the phone bill) and they quickly helped me on something that I did/messed up.

I think that this is going to come down to personal preference. One person may hate em and another can't get enough of em. Kind of like people and their yugo's.

I would want to register a domain name...
I would want to have my site hosted...
I would want a web site to be created for the same...
