Windows Popup modify?

How would I go about adding a line to the popup window when you rightclick on the desktop. I have heard it is done through API calls and/or through the registry. Anybody know how this can be done? Would I do it at run time and have the program run in the background or can I do it upon installing the program. Any help would be appreciated.

Which part of the desktop menu do you want to add your program entry to?
The "New" sub menu? The main menu?

well when in 98 and you right click on the desktop you get the popup menu with Active Desktop, Arrange Icons, Line up Icons, Refresh, Paste, Paste Shortcut, New, and Properties.
I want to add a line to that menu.
