bg color problems

there are a few tables near the bottom of this page. when you put your cursor over them, the bg color changes. however, the bg of the links do not change. i want the bg of the links to change when you put your mouse on the table. how can i do that?

Goto my home page Here (http://www.bassicsoftware.com) and view the source code on the left section (the menu bar), it uses an external CSS but that only dictates the starting point of the styles.

It will give an idea of how to setup the tables and its' events with Javascript.
