Creating a CD Burner app

Hi!
First of all, i don't know if I'm posting at the right place.
Well, is it possible do create a CD Burner utility in VB6? ( without using the IMAPI, etc... )?

The flamed lib on planet source code is vb6. It doesn't use imapi, instead it uses deviceiocontrol to send multimedia commands directly to the drive. Only does CDs. I've not used it, I know nothing of vb6...
