Anyone know how to get my server on the web? I have the ISS going, how to I associate www.whatever.com with the ip address....? If anyone has a website that will get me started that would be great !

If you have your own webserver, you need a DNS (Domain Name Server) as well. This holds the information that maps the domain name to your IP, and I *think* all you have to do is set your domain names NS to point to your own NS. I'm not sure though...

Bob will probably know because I think he runs his own DNS.

that is done thru the people who you purchased your website thru. I guess what I need to know is how to do I point the www.1.com to this particular folder and www.2.com to another....have several urls to one server....anyone have any ideas? I assume that is mostly done on the IIS.

Goto the website of the Registrar (the place that you registered your domain name) and find a section to "change your DNS"...

What erocm is asking is, assuming that two domains point to the
same IP address (and this has already been configured in the DNS
server), how to configure IIS to send the correct request to the
correct internal web folder?

I know this is done alll the time in Apache, so it makes sense it is
possible in IIS, but I am not sure how to configure IIS to handle it.

Thinker, you hit the nail right on the head.... (ow). Any takers on this one? I have to use IIS b/c I am writing in ASP.

I have tried a number of things on my IIS test setup, and the only
way I can get it to show a different web folder is to use a different
port (other than 80) for the alternate web domain. I am still sure
there is a way, maybe someone else will know more about it.
