My site for work experience. Does it work?

05-29-2002, 04:21 AM
My careers teacher forgot who I was, or something, and instead of getting work experience as a programmer, I am now doing it as a web designer. This is ok because I like web designing too. They say that I have to submit some work that I have done in dreamweaver and photoshop. I designed one and showed my friend, but he siad it didnt load up properly on his machine, so was wondering if you guys could test it for me, and give me some feed back.
Thanks alot!

Oh yeah the site is: kitaiko (

Nothing loads because you've left all the local filepaths in....
<embed src="file://///Chris/chris/My%20Documents/My%20designs/text4.swf" .....
<img src="file://///Chris/chris/My%20Documents/pure%20velocity/grass.jpg".....

Impressive graphics Kitaiko... :-)

Very nice, but I'd cut down on the flash. Do some design using graphics and HTML only, plus lots of CSS. Throw in a bit of JS for show, and you're away. Flash is very rarely used in such quantities as you've done so.

Well Done. Very Good Graphics. I am thinking one to put as my Avatar. No copyright Issues?.. :p

Thanks guys,
Yeah, I just shoved the flash section in as an extra link, I should lose it.
Anis: Sure you can, you can do what you like with them :)

Yeah, I just shoved the flash section in as an extra link, I should lose it.

Why would you get rid of it? If you did the flash yourself, and you created a link for people to check it out, then I'd show it off.
Flash is WAY more accepted these days then a few years ago, so you might as well leave it. I think they look pretty good. :)

Looks awesome man, but I think you want the 2nd to last link in the left menu to read 'About Us', not 'Abous Us'. Also, maybe a slightly darker blue for the text. That's about all I could suggest changing.

Nice work Kitaiko!

Excellent flash animations. Sometimes the flash takes awhile to load. Anyways, it's awesome. Keep up the good work Kitaiko. :)

Ok, I have a good question now:

Is it illegal to send emails to a whole bunch of people I dont know to promote my site (not this one)?

If not is there any other ways to get it more traffic?

If you submit your website to a search engine, it should receive more traffic. Also advertisements may work... that's what I read.

Don't think so, but... I wouldn't want to receive numerous e-mails, all with a link to a site that I've never heard of by someone I've never heard of.

No, it is not illegal to promote your site.

In my Inbox, I find about 6 advertisements a day. These are major companies doing this and yet they still continue.

If you want to be found out through a search engine use this tag:

There are also other Meta Tags. Go here to get some info on them:

Its not illegal but not ethical enough as well. To me, i usually dont open such emails and send them to JUnk Mail/Block Folder.

This is called "spamming" and yes it is becoming more and more illegal in various countries. Be very careful about how you go about it. Unsolicited email can land in you in trouble.

The best way to do it is to send email to your friends, and ask them to forward it to all their address book, and so on, rather than sending out thousands to random people. This way, all the receivers are receiving from someone they know, and are ten times as likely to actually open the mail. I delete junk 100% of the time without looking at it.

Normally, mail you send is relayed via your ISPs SMTP server, so if you do go with bulk emailing, make sure you ask your ISP first, or else they may cut off your account. Of course, you may come across some software that doesn't require relaying.

The last option - and this is one I go for - is to have a mailing list. Advertise on your site and allow people to subscribe and remove themselves. That way, you know that people you are sending to do actually want the email. It's worked fine for me. You can get a free script here -
