Format problem with merged cells

I have merged some cells which I have formatted with text format.

The text in the merged occasionally shows only "##########################################################" in the celles. The text is still readable in the formula bar but not in the cells. If I change the format to numbers, it appear as text in the merged cells again.

But it should have been text format . Changing it will only work for a short while.

Any suggestions?

If you change the format to General then you should be OK.

I believe that Excel will only display 255 characters of text in a cell - so those cells that show #### are probably exceeding that character limit.

I think changing the format from Text to General fixes that problem?

Wow, I think you're right (at least in my Excel 2003 version). I wonder if that's relatively new. I remember reading about this limitation a few years ago when I was looking up some of Excel's limits for something else, and just assumed it was still that way, since I saw it come up for me last month. But sure enough, the cells in question for me were formatted as text. Changing to General format did indeed fix the issue.

Interesting.

Thank's. I will try to change the format. I thought I tried General some time ago and had the same result, but I will try it once more.

I had actually the 255 character problem with the ExecuteExcel4Macro(arg) function.
